Today’s verse Ephesians 5: 15-16
“Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.”
I love to read, eat chocolate and spend time with my family. I am not fond of laundry, cleaning bathrooms, paying bills and shopping for shoes. When I have to do something that I am not fond of, I draw out the task. First I avoid it, then I huff and whine, then, I finally get around to taking care of it. When I am finished, I always realize that it was not as bad as I made it out to be. Ugh!
I am stubborn, I don’t want to do it. I press in my heals and avoid the tasks that I feel are unpleasant. Sometimes being an adult sucks. We are forced to pull up our big girl/boy pants and get through each day unpleasant tasks included. Avoiding things usually makes them worse, harder to take care of. I know this first hand. Even knowing this, I still avoid doing things that I don’t like to do.
The thing to do is “Just Do It.” Get it done then get on to the things that I enjoy. I try to find a way to have fun while doing the task, play uplifting music, use scented cleaning products, listen to an audio-book as I do the task. Prayer and meditation are important steps for me in handling unpleasant conversations, emotions, and tasks that I am avoiding. I try to set a goal, when I am done cleaning the cats litter box, I can watch the latest episode of a favorite show. (Yay!)
What are you avoiding? Join me in getting them done, out of the way and off of our to-do list. Then join me in celebrating our accomplishment!
