What's your story?

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Today's Verse: Psalm 78:1-4 The Message (MSG)

“Listen, dear friends, to God’s truth, bend your ears to what I tell you. I’m chewing on the morsel of a proverb; I’ll let you in on the sweet old truths, Stories we heard from our fathers, counsel we learned at our mother’s knee. We’re not keeping this to ourselves, we’re passing it along to the next generation— God’s fame and fortune, the marvelous things he has done.”

Stories are a huge part of our lives. We have shared joys and tears through stories. We have learned through stories. We have found hope and encouragement in them.

In the workshops that we do, the most engaging time is when participants are given a topic and time to share their stories. As the presenter, you can just hear conversation everywhere and feel the energy at each table. People’s faces light up and everyone becomes engage in the activity. These timeless are truly life giving.

Every time we hear someone’s story, we make a connection with that person. We then learn and grow from the gift of their sharing. What is shared then becomes a part of us and how we see and respond to the world around us.

Isn’t that how the Bible relates with us? Through stories. Think of the many people in the Bible whose life has become a part of yours through their stories. Adam and Eve, Job, Kings (David) and Queens (Esther) and one of my favorites, Ruth, the disciples and Paul. Jesus used parables to teach his lessons. A parable is defined as a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson.

Our stories are the best way to pass on our faith to others. Sharing our experiences and God’s hand in them continues the tradition of showing the reality and truth of God and how He lives in us, around us, and through us.

Everyone has a story to tell. What’s your story? Who will you share it with?

Peace,
