Who do you admire?

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Today’s verse: Hebrews 13:7-8 The Message (MSG)

“ Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness. There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.”

One of the workshops that I used to do with my partner Robb was called Leader Visioning. It was one of my favorite workshops because, as the presenters, we never would know in which directions the workshop would go. It was the thrill of the unexpected!

It started out with us asking the participants to name someone they admired, living or dead, real or imaginary. We would go around the room and get their responses. The next activity would be to have each person list all of the traits/practices/gifts that they felt made that person so special. Then we would have the participants pick one or two of their answers and ask them, How could you either learn or grow in that area? What steps do you need to take to be more like them?

We got the usual answers, my Mom, Christ, Gandhi. One time the answer was my dog! The reasoning was that the dog got whatever he needed and wanted and was able to get it non-verbally, food, let out, scratching, etc. Another reason was because the dog loved unconditionally. Very thought provoking. Another one of my favorites was Boaz from the book of Ruth. Look him up, he was an intelligent leader who cared for and gave to those around him.

My questions for you today are:

  • Who do you admire?

  • Why do you admire them?

  • What traits do they have that you would like to learn or grow in?

Tell me yours, and I will tell you mine!

Blessings,
